I basically need a nanny "cam" recording (motion activated) activity in my room when I'm away from home. Things are stolen. It should be noticeable. I have been looking into it. Is it better (provided that the registration of the action) to get a USB DVR (only connects to the PC), a portable DVR PCI card or a DVR? I can not get one that plugs into my VCR for 1) I can record programs while I'm @ work & 2), would be remarkable if my VCR off when someone entered the room. There are so many options. Is it best for them separately or something that has everything? I need a discreet pinhole camera or motion activated and you can write about anything other than my VCR. Color and sound would be a plus but not necessary. I Reasearch until my head hurts, but I still not an expert and wants to make the right decision. Thank you!
I do not envy our situation. I know that the market is full of information and a lot of junk is biased. In your situation, I think it is a solution to long-short term. The cheapest is to connect a pinhole camera expected to slow to a video recording. Probably could get up to 8 hours on a tape if it is set at low speed (typically is enough to make a $ h0le.) Another method would be cheaper digital camcorder with AV input. As for solutions more effective, I would not recommend not a PC based system for anything in progress. PCs, especially those based on Billyware (also known as Windows) tend to fail. Slowly irritating when it is a Word document, but very annoying if it leads to lost images. I suggest with a unit based on embedded Linux. These look like a standard video, except they have a hard drive. It may also be able to find a company that rents surveillance systems in the short term. If you were local help, but Tennessee is another story. I also wrote an article on video surveillance. Put a little money somewhere obvious. To do this, the morning and check when you return. If you have a child, make sure it is a place where the child can not reach.
